Live Each Day With a Grateful Heart

Hello lovelies, I hope all of you are having the most fantastic day today. Today I thought I'd share something with you that has been weighing on my mind for a while now; being grateful.

The world around us is filled with so many new and exciting things that for me it can get very easy to start focusing on what others have, what I don't have, and all of these little wants. The life you have can start to seem like it'll never be enough and that there is always going to be something better and really, that's no way to live. Since realizing this, I've made it my goal to try and start each day with a grateful heart and really appreciate all of the things and people around me. So here are a few tips that I use to do just that.

1. Appreciate the little things
Things as simple as fresh water or a soft bed are all so wonderful, yet so easily taken for granted. Usually, it's the littlest things such as these that make everyday so special.

2. Take a Moment to Pause
Try to everyday, especially when things seem tough, to just take a moment and really look at all you have around you. You'll probably quickly realize just how blessed you are and that typically makes me feel so much better.

3. Say Thank You
You've probably been told to do this since you could talk, but nowadays there's not always someone there to remind you. Try saying thank you as much as you can. To the person at the checkout line, the mail man, or a teacher. It'll make there day better as well as yours.

4. Keep a Gratitude Journal
At the end of each day, try to write down 3 things that you are thankful for. Doesn't matter what they are. This will make sure you end your day on a positive note and reflect on all around.

5. Turn to God
When all else fails, turn to God. Life is so wonderful and God has given so many blessing. Sometimes the best thing to do is find some quiet time and pray. Tell God how thankful you are and remember what's most important.

I this helps you all, even just a little bit. I'd love to hear some ways that you stay grateful. Most importantly, thank y'all some much for reading my blog! I love hearing from you and knowing that you read these posts makes my life so much greater! So thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Meet Roku + Weekend Ohio Trip

Hey y'all! So we went to Ohio this past weekend to celebrate Caleb's birthday. While we were there we picked up this cutie pie! His dad gave her to him as a birthday present and she quite possibly the cutest birthday present ever!

She's an Australian Shepard and a little over 2 months old. She's a little crazy at times, and yet other's she's the calmest puppy I've ever seen. She's sleeping in the kitchen as I right this.

Roku really loved Caleb, it's adorable watching them play together. She will follow him all over the place, never leaving his side.
She's all white, and her mom is too, she has a a few quirks because of it. For one, one of her eyes are green and the other is light blue. She also has 6 toes on each of her back foot. I think they just had to her quirkiness.

The whole trip went by way to fast. As soon as we started heading home, we both said we wished we could turn around a stay forever. I wish it was closer so we could visit every weekend, but for now once a month is going to just have to do.

We were a little concerned about how she'd do on the 6 hour car trip back to our house, but she was surprisingly really great! Although she kept wanting to chew on my soda bottle.

I'm so excited to have a puppy. I've had many dogs growing up, but they were always dogs you shared with 5 other people. This puppy is just mine and Caleb's, and I think it makes it that much more special.

I'm sure you'll be seeing more of her in future posts, so until then!

Packing for a Weekend Trip + Tips

Caleb and I seem to be heading to Ohio for the weekend at least once a month. With all of those road trips, you start to learn tips and tricks for utilizing space and only packing what's important. I absolutely love travelling, but packing is something I tend to put off until last minute. These tips help make the job that much easier and faster too!
I try to pack clothes that are neutral or similar in color. This way I can mix and match pieces to create multiple outfits, without having to bring tons of pieces. I usually start out by putting everything in piles before I put it in the bag. This way I can see what I have and what else I need to get. I also try to make a list of everything I need and then while I put things in the bag I can check it off one by one.

Here's a quick run down of what I'm bringing this weekend:
-2 tops
-1 cami
-denim shorts
-blue shorts
-PJs
-cowboy boots
-socks and undies
-flats
-makeup bag

This weekend bag has so much room, I can fit all of things in here and all of my husband's clothes as well. I love that I don't have to lug tons of bags around. The simpler packing can be the better!
In a separate bag I put all my beauty products and chargers/small electronics. I usually bring my Longchamp because it is water resistant and has tons of room for everything I need! Finally I bring a cross body bag to hold my phone, camera, and important papers.

Once the bags are all packed I'm ready to go! By the time you read this, I'll probably be heading on my way to Ohio.
Are y'all heading anyplace exciting soon? What are your tips of packing? Let me know!

Easy Lemon Bread Recipe

Lemon is my absolute favorite flavor in the summer time. As soon as I taste it, all I imagine is warm, sunny days. Maybe it is because of it's bright, yellow color or how light the flavor is. Either way it definitely adds a little bit of sunshine to life.

That's why when I saw this recipe for lemon bread in Taste of Home magazine I just knew I had to make it! It's super easy to make and all you need are ingredients you probably already have around your house.

Lemon Bread Recipe:
1/2 cups of butter
1 cup of sugar
2 large eggs
5 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp lemon peel
1 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of powdered sugar

Preheat the oven to 350 F and grease a 8x4 inch bread pan.

Mix together butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy and smooth. Then add both eggs, 3 tbsp of lemon juice, and 1 tbsp of lemon zest. Mix together into well combined.

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then add half of the first mixture to the flour mixture and stir well. Then add half the milk. Stir well. Repeat until all of the butter mixture and the milk is added. Stir together until smooth.

Add the batter to the pan and bake for 45 minutes or until you can stick it with a toothpick and it comes out clean.

While that's baking, mix together 2 tbsp of lemon juice and all of the powdered sugar. Once the bread is done remove the bread from the pan and place on a cooling rack. Pour the powdered sugar glaze over the bread and let cool.

This bread is so very yummy and makes for a perfect treat! If you try it out let me know! I'd love to hear how it turned out for you.

Hey y'all! Where has this summer gone?! I can't believe that in just a few weeks school will be back in session and autumn will follow soon after. Before schools starts though, here are a few things on my to do list that you might be able to add to your own.
Once these things are done I know I feel ready to take on the next semester! What's on your back-to-school to do list? Are you excited for the new semester?

What I'm Reading in August

It's been a while, hasn't it? I swear this past weekend just flew in the craziest way. Now though that I've got my feet back on the ground everything is running a little bit smoother. Is anybody else just as surprised that it is already August as I am? I can't believe the year is more than half way over! Since it is the beginning of the month I thought I'd share what I am reading this August.

What I'm Reading: The Girl Who Stopped Swimming by Joshilyn Jackson

Laurel sees the ghost of a little girl in her bedroom one night. When it leads her to the backyard and a dead girl is in the swimming pool, the life Laurel had hoped to build in her gated Florida neighborhood with her video-game designer husband, David and their tween daughter, Shelby, starts to fall apart. Though the police clear the drowning as accidental, it soon appears that Shelby and her friend may have been involved.

Now this author is one of my absolute favorites. I haven't read a single book by her that I haven't liked so I am sure this one will be just as good as the others.

What are y'all reading this month? Let me know in the comments!
