Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018

As the year comes to an end I've been thinking about all the things that have happened in these last 365 days. This year has been one of HUGE life changes, tears, laughter, lots of miles on our car, and definitely a lot of love.

We started the year off with a 3,651 miles road trip to our new home in Washington. That was the most intense trip I have ever been on in my whole life. Poor Caleb drove the gigantic box truck all across the U.S.
Finally though we made it and settled into our cute little part of the world.

Our whole world changed though on January 31st when we discovered we were going to have a baby! After a year and a half of praying for little one it was happening!

And to make things sweeter, we were having a little girl!

The days between finding out we were expecting to July were mostly filled with endless days of nausea and vomiting. I barely left the bed, lived off of gatorade and pretzels, and lost 40+ lbs. It got so bad I ended up in the hospital in mid-July.

Finally after a practically a whole year of preparing, we welcomed our sweet one into the world on October 10th, 2017. Labor was fast and easy, but unbelievable. To think the lord gave us this girl to love and watch grow. I couldn't believe this was my life.

In November, both families came up to visit us and meet Isla. We hadn't seen them since last Christmas so it was a blessing to get a few days with them. I absolutely loved watching my parents with Isla. Too cute!

Now here we are at the end of December. About to embark on a whole 'nother year of adventure and changes. I can't wait to share it with y'all again.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Happy Tuesday! Did you have a good Christmas? This was Caleb's and my first Christmas without any family around. We thought Caleb would have to work through it (that's the military for ya), but his supervisors were so sweet to let him have the day off! So on Christmas Eve we headed off to explore a nearby beach by us. We've been here for almost a year and yet I had no idea this place was so close. To make things even better, when we left the house it started to snow; our first snow of the season!
Walking through the woods was like a dream! It was so quiet, the only sound we could hear was snow hitting the ground and our footsteps crunching against the dirt. It's a bit of a hike down to the beach. The views on our way there were amazing.
We were hoping to see some sort of sea creatures when we finally made it to the beach, but there wasn't anything but shells. To be honest if I was a starfish I'd want to stay off of the cold beach too!
We could barely see the ocean's waters with the fog. It's so crazy how there was no fog anywhere except for right where the water started. It just seemed like this whole spot was out of a storybook.

Isla slept through the whole thing, all bundled up against me in the baby carrier.  It was the most magical Christmas Eve. All I could think about was how blessed I was to be surrounded in such a beautiful place with my loves. I can't believe this life is mine.

2 Months Old | Isla Makai

. . .
weight | 11 lbs and 2 oz
height | 25 inches
sleep | Only really naps if she's being held, but at night she'll just latch on while we're both sleeping, so I never really have to fully wake up which is nice
eating | Every 2 hrs. She's an eater
likes | christmas lights, bath time, being on her playmat and getting her picture taken
dislikes | wet diapers and not being held for longer than 30 minutes
favorite moment | Overall, just seeing her personality come out more and more
milestones | she can roll over belly to back. Starting to roll back to belly, and is holding her head up a lot. Talks like crazy and responds to sights and sounds.
. . .
It's a little late, but I was waiting for her doctor's appointment to get all her measurements. She's growing into this goofy, sweet thing and I love her like crazy. It seems like these days are flying by.
